sean igor OS does not support wildcard domains and wildcard SSL. Wildcard domains are a planned feature, will follow up here when it is available. You can use wildcard certificates issued by 3rd party providers right now, and once we support wildcard domains our LE setup will be able to generate them here for free :-)
kolja sean great news! BTW, are you by any chance the same Sean F from WF support from years ago? ๐
bici I may not be the average Dev type user... but i migrated 10 sites from Webfaction to Opalstack with, for the most part, nary a hitch! One site i had to postpone due to the fact that i had to wait for a feature that initially was not available. I have now been here for over a year and happy as a clam!
RTIT I'm looking to move a few WF hosted sites. My big issue is my rails site. Does Opalstack support Rails 3.2.13(nginx 1.4.1/Passenger 4.0.2/Ruby 2.0.0)
sean RTIT Does Opalstack support Rails 3.2.13(nginx 1.4.1/Passenger 4.0.2/Ruby 2.0.0) We support Rails but our default install does not use Nginx+Passenger. If you really need Nginx+Passenger we can probably help you get it running. Rails 3.x is pretty old but I think we can help you get that running as well. Will try to get a HOWTO posted soon, please ping support if you need assistance in the meantime. Thanks!
sean RTIT We've got a Passenger HOWTO up now: HOWTO Install Rails running on Nginx+Passenger on Opalstack Support for older versions of Ruby is coming soon, with any luck.
sean bici Not sure which "postmaster" you're referring to, but probably :-) If you can give me a link to the specific project or app I can try to verify.
bici sean I think the felller was referring to a gmail app which I believe is a bit long in the tooth ๐ i verified. he is referring to Postmaster Tools from Google.
sean allrite you can use wildcard certificates but you can't create wildcard domains in our setup here. I've updated my earlier answer to clarify.
Jorgeoa Hi, Iโm also a webfaction customer for ten years now looking for an alternative. I have an old rails application running in rails 2. Would be possible to run it in Opalstack? Iโm using rvm in webfaction (they donโt support rails 2 in the control panel setup) Thanks!
sean Jorgeoa I'm testing a few Rails-related things today and will let you know if I can get Rails 2 working. Can you tell me which version of Ruby you're using in rvm?
roam3 I have an old (1.3) Django app to migrate. Can I just 'zip up' my WF account and transfer it over so that Django 1.3 comes with it? Also, any ETA on wildcard domains? Our app relies on it. Thanks for starting Opalstack!
sean roam3 I have an old (1.3) Django app to migrate. Can I just 'zip up' my WF account and transfer it over so that Django 1.3 comes with it? You can zip it up and copy it over, but it's unlikely that it will "just work". To get it running you'll need to adapt it to our uwsgi setup by following the instructions here: https://community.opalstack.com/d/125-wf-to-opalstack-django-and-postgres-where-to-begin/2 roam3 Also, any ETA on wildcard domains? None at this time, sorry. So much to do!
sean Jorgeoa Iโm using ruby 1.8.7 and rails 2.3.5 Thanks, I'll try to get that working and will let you know how it goes.
ttavoy Just to comment, the reasons which they gave for claiming that my website is not migrateable were not very convincing. I think they could have tried a little bit harder.
vince sean You might be pleased to know that the 'WebFaction: We can't migrate...' emails also contain the following information for the option to move to another host ๐ Move to another host - Other hosts offer features (e.g. Postgres, Django) that are incompatible with tsoHost. These hosts include but are not limited to Opalstack (opalstack.com), DigitalOcean (digitalocean.com), Heroku (heroku.com), and PythonAnywhere (pythonanywhere.com). This is provided for information only and we don't recommend any particular host.
