sean Where can I sign up for updates on this topic? I'm halfway through moving everything over from WebFaction before they turn off the lights this week. In many cases, moving just means copying files over, but not getting stuff up and running yet. I have a bunch of fun stuff running on WF, including Erlang, couchdb, redis and more. Much of that was a pain to set up on WF. It'd be great if OpalStack figured out a way to make those installs easier!

Found this thread when I searched for "Docker". I have only a dangerous level of knowledge of web apps and what not, so I tend to mostly just follow directions to spin up what I am interested in. So "docker" or "container" etc I am not sure the distinctions, but I Was hoping to setup this thing on my Opal Stack account which seems to use Docker.

I was interested in Docker. But then I came across DigitalOcean's App Platform where we push code to our github repo and DigitalOcean automatically pulls the code by creating a container of sorts. I wish this sort of feature were available in OpalStack because it scales without thinking of adding more resources manually from our side. And am sure many customers would be interested in this feature more than setting up docker manually.

I've been rolling my own github hooks on a per-project basis using a php script I grabbed from a gist on github, but it's a bit clumsy to maintain and error-prone during configuration.

@sean: Any news or a roadmap with regard to using containers/Docker images? Would be useful for early (Proof of Concept) development and showcasing to colleagues/users.

rogererens we're presently working on a new buildout of our infrastructure running on Rocky Linux v9. Rocky is one of the successors to the CentOS operating system that we're currently using. It's a much newer OS and we hope to be able to support containers in some form once we've got the platform running on it.

zaps we're still working on some last-mile blockers for Rocky Linux. Once that's done we'll look into supporting containerized apps.

I don't have an ETA. I'd like to optimistically say maybe within a few months, but I've said that in the past and we're still not there.

+1. My use is a piece of software called rallly. According to their docs,

The best way to self-host Rallly is using the official Docker image.
...
Though it is technically possible to build and run Rallly from its source-code, it is not recommended and we do not provide support for this.

+1 to the folks interested in Docker! It's a dependency for the framework we want to run our psychology experiments within, PsyNet.
