External Domains and Email

I'm confused about how email will work on my site on Opalstack. I will not be setting up email on Opalstack, but I do expect emails to be sent from my site; e.g. notifications about comments, contact form submissions, WordFence notifications, etc.

Do I need to follow the steps outlined on the Domains page under the Using External Name Servers - Records for your email section, or is that only required if you're actually setting up an email account for your site on Opalstack?

Van if your domain is using external name servers and you will be sending mail via Opalstack's mail system (either via sendmail, PHP mail(), or SMTP) then you must follow those instructions. If you do not, then your mail will not pass DKIM verification checks and will likely be flagged as spam.

If you're not using our mail system at all, ie your site sends mail by connecting to an external SMTP server, then you don't need those DNS records but you might need to create similar records if required by your mail provider.

sean My domain uses no email name servers. On my other hosting account, email was handled internally. I just use 3 email addresses created under my Fastmail email service account and everything is sent to those addresses. I guess I'll find out if and when I can get my site live under Opalstack. Thank you for your help with all of my questions.

I just wanted to provide an update for others who may read this thread. I didn't have to setup anything out of the ordinary for email to work for my WordPress installs.
