Inability to send and receive email is bad, but it can be worked around by using another email provider.
This is worse because the data is literally gone until it's restored, which you're advising could take days.
By choosing this route you've unilaterally decided to temporarily empty out customer inboxes without consultation and I think that's a crazy thing to have done, sorry.
