Reply-chain grouping is a missing feature in Roundcube (just saying)

First search turns up https://github.com/roundcube/roundcubemail/issues/499 suggesting its developers aren't interested in grouping replies. I'm anticipating being annoyed on the regular by this, especially since every letter looks the same in the mailbox (same exact subject lines, only dates to go by.) (I've never actually read the quoted bodies of emails before, I always took them to be a way to redundantly preserve the entire conversation in case any one letter is lost.)

I've searched for a Roundcube plugin that provides a conversation view but so far I've not found one. If I can find one in the future we'll look into installing it.

Thanks! Luckily the feature already exists. I found it just now when I was making a folder for organizing old letters by contacts. In "..." -> "Manage Folders" -> Inbox, set to Threads mode 🙂

mick-p1982 Ah yes, the threading feature is already there. I thought you were looking for something more like the Gmail-style conversations discussed in the ticket that you linked to in your OP.

P.S. You can also use the Options button over the opened folder. I think I tried that without success. I think I was expecting the Incoming and Outgoing parts of the "conversation" to be combined in the threads, and at that time I only had one sent/received each so it didn't appear to be a thread yet.

I admit I don't know what "gmail style" is but it does seem rather limiting in that the relevant letters are split between the Inbox and Outbox for basic one-on-one reply-chains, and it seems if letters are auto-sorted by recipient it further confuses the system. I wonder if the Github link is not the best place to notifiy the team. Maybe if someone filed an issue in the proper place and outlined a reasonable goal and made it request for a company like Opalstack's it could be remedied by the developers.

It seems like the letters that would appear in the thread if they were in the correct folders just need to be "transcluded" (virtually included) in the thread-view and that would solve the basic problem. Plus it would help if selecting multiple letters in the thread could display them in the reading area instead of doing so one at a time. This is just my idea of a full and minimal usability-oriented proposal that could be presented to Roundcube's team.
