WebDAV?

Know you are very busy, just noting I'm looking for WebDAV as well.
Zotero, an program widely used by graduate students to organize documents, is what I'm looking to run. I'll buy another instance for it. I do hope to do a guide to self-hosting for graduate students before September 2021.

rdelrossi joeycoleman you are the first to hear this: we've just rolled out WebDAV apps in the dashboard 🙂

Documentation is in progress but here is the short version:

Create a WebDAV app at https://my.opalstack.com/application/new/
Add the app to a site.
Access your app in your WebDAV client via the site you created in step 2.

Please try it out and let me know what you think 🙂

sean Thanks for the note about this. Much appreciated. We moved our home cross country so I'm just now getting back to this subject.

I've created the WebDav app and routed it to a domain. I can see it's running, but my connections are being refused with authentication errors. I noticed a passwd file created by the app. I presume that's the password for access, but I may be confused about the proper username/password combination.

Is there some documentation I can scan for a better understanding of where I'm going wrong?

Thanks again for the heads up. I'm excited by the new support for WebDAV.

I've never used WeDAV before, but I wanted to set it up to use a shared calendar in Thunderbird. I followed the directions above and got WebDAV installed. I can access it using cadaver at the command line, but I can't access it with anything else. I've tried Thunderbird, WinSCP, Windows Explorer. I've tried both http and https. Any suggestions?

I just use the standard set-up, nothing fancy. With work from home, I am no longer mobile and not requiring the sync. Thus, not yet buying a new instance for WebDAV. (My zotero is 36GB of files)

@sean Just found this topic and went in to give a WebDav app a try, first option that was provided to me was 'Allow anonymous access'. Could you elaborate upon why this option is available and when it would be suitable? Seems risky on shared facilities, or am i wrong?

merten the intention with that was to provide a way to share files publicly via webdav. We'll review it and tighten it up where we find security issues.

In the meantime if it concerns you then do not enable anonymous access.

rdelrossi your initial WebDAV username and password are available in your account notifications.

You can create additional users via the htpasswd command. To do so, log in to SSH as your app's shell user and run the following command, replacing "username" with the name of the new webdav user:

htdigest ~/apps/appname/passwd appname username

Edit: original version of this incorrenctly used htpasswd instead of htdigest.

I'm having difficulty changing the password, @sean. My changes are accepted without error, but the program I use to synchronize data via WebDAV (which is DEVONthink) keeps reporting an authentication failure.

I was wondering, is this something that should take some time or would you expect the result of htpasswd to be just about immediate?

rdelrossi The change to your password file should take effect immediately. Have you tested your credentials via a different webdav client (eg Finder) to ensure they're working?

sean That's a good thought. Just tried it and can't connect from there, either. For what it's worth, it was working with the system-generated password.

rdelrossi turns out I gave you the wrong command for setting your password. I've updated my examples above and have also followed up on your ticket.

I am setting up WebDAV for Floccus use. I followed the steps described here but got a 401 code error. I tried different user names and passwords, but it did not solve the problem. Is there some update in WebDAV setting up?

msampaio Based on my research, the Floccus extension does not support digest authentication - which is what we use in our WebDAV setup. And it doesn't look like there is any movement on the status of that.
