Procmail Testing Environment?

Hi,

I've been trying to get a procmail testing sandbox setup. So I can test out rules without sending a bunch of actual emails. I brought over some code that I used at WebFaction. But I don't remember if I ever got it working well there.

I've tried various different version:

Results:

I run it in the shell and there's an output (no errors), but just lines of ~.
If I scroll I see the occasional "...skipping..." output.
Nothing is written to the log file (specified in the main .sh file).
When I exit it reads: line 24: procmail: command not found.

I don't mind posting my code (and I will), but that procmail: command not found makes me think it's not even installed or possible to do this right now.

Then I ran which procmailand it definitely doesn't seem to be installed (or installed under that name).

It's definitely installed at WF:

| => which procmail
procmail is /usr/bin/procmail

So before I post or test further, I thought I'd start with this.

aa11 we don't plan to install procmail on customer web servers, but its pretty easy to install yourself:

mkdir ~/opt
cd ~/opt
wget http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/os/x86_64/Packages/procmail-3.22-36.el7_4.1.x86_64.rpm
rpm2cpio procmail-3.22-36.el7_4.1.x86_64.rpm | cpio -idmv
mv usr/* ./
rm -rf opt procmail-3.22-36.el7_4.1.x86_64.rpm

When that's done you can run it via ~/opt/bin/procmail.

That's was super easy, barely an inconvenience.

I'm having a hard time getting my rules to match my test message. It seems like it should, but I'm probably missing something. I'll keep working on it.

I'm seeing messages in the local procmail testing log about stuff (messages?) being written to: /var/spool/mail/USER

Also the shell message: You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/USER

Is that accurate?

If so, sorry. You can delete that stuff. Is there any way I can get it to not do that?

Sounds like mail is slipping past whatever procmail rules you're testing and ending up in your local mail spool. You'll have to contact us via your registered account email address if you want us to delete something for you.
