Autoresponder configuration

It seems sub-optimal to have autoresponders linked to mailboxes rather than email addresses. I have users that have a shared mailbox but different email addresses with that mailbox as destination, and the current feature set means I can't set up personalized autoresponder messages for each user. Or is there a way to do that which I've missed?

If you want an autoresponder assigned to an address that is independent of the destinations and forwards then you can do the following:

Create a separate mail user for the autoresponder, like my_autoresponder (whatever you want is fine) with its procmail rules set like this:

Those procmail rules will ensure that you don't use storage for mail sent to the autoresponder, ie incoming mail will trigger the autoresponder and then be discarded.

Enable the autoresponder and set the autoresponder message on the new mail user and save it.
Edit the address in the dashboard to assign the my_autoresponder mail user to whatever address.

At that point you'll have an autoresponder set on the address, independent of the other destinations and forwards on the address.

At this time all addresses that target a single mailbox will use the autoresponder for that mailbox.

I'll make a note of your interest in having autoresponders attached to addresses instead. In the meantime, you could work around it by creating an additional mail user for each unique autoresponder that you need and attach those mail users to their respective addresses.

Hi Sean. I second the need. In WF we used to set auto-responders per the destination email, which helped us share the mail user (in particular for catch-all) emails. Also WF allowed choosing a subject for auto-responder. Would be helpful if we could match it in opalstack.
