In the descriptions of services and features on www.opalstack.com you never talk about backups (or at least I haven't seen it). Can you please describe what, when and to where you're backing things up as well as the mesures one would have to take to get access to the backups.

Sorry for the necromancy. Can we set this up on a schedule so the end user can script offloading backups to 3rd party storage? Eg. backups exported to our home dir every night by opalstack, and we can cron/rsync ship them out?

I can tell you what I did. I subscribed to the "Swiss Backup" at Infomaniak (27€/year for 200 GB), installed rclone at opalstack, got the parameters from Infomaniak and set up a cron job to send backups to Infomaniak every night. I also wrote a script that checks the latest backups at Infomaniak every morning and emails me a short report. Feels quite safe :-)

etb We're not able to send the backups back to the servers like that. For your own offsite backups please copy what you have on the server to your offsite location.

christer That sounds great. Are you backing up at Swiss Backup one single user/home directory or several home directories? I am looking for the best solution to backup several user/home directories while using the minimal disk space on Opalstack. Thank you very much for your help.
