danancona I’ve been with Gandi exclusively for decades; like you, the recent price jump was enough to get me to leave. It’s not so much the price, as what it means: a price that high means they’re specifically trying to drive people away. I don’t think there are any really great alternatives given what Gandi used to be, but I’ve chosen to move to porkbun as my domains come up for renewal. Mainly because their web site seems to be better designed than most.
In Gandi’s defense, they make it very easy to move out. Unlock your domain, set up the renewal on porkbun (or presumably anywhere) using the special per-domain code Gandi provides, and then give the same special code to Gandi a couple of minutes later to confirm once their email arrives. From start to finish is probably less than half an hour, with all the work on your end being done within five minutes.
