Postgres version 11.9 installed vs 15 brand new

As an aside: OpalStack is great for us ex-WebFaction folks so glad to see that things seem to continue moving forward. Anyway...

Using Adminer, I ran SELECT version(); and get:

PostgreSQL 11.9 on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, compiled by gcc (GCC) 4.8.5 20150623 (Red Hat 4.8.5-39), 64-bit

v11.9 is about 5 years old, and not even the latest minor release in the 11 series - v11.17 per https://www.postgresql.org/support/versioning/

I'm certainly not a DB admin so I'm not particularly enthusiastic about installing my own.

Any thoughts from the community and from Opalstack?

A lot of server operating systems use older packages for stability, back-porting security patches into them. That is the case here, most users will be fine with the version supplied unless they need a feature not supported by the installed version. In that case, a manual instance will need to be built for such cases.

Thought I might double check on this one. I wanted to have some data from Home Assistant send to Postgres, but HASS says the min version it will support is Postgres 12, so I'm getting an error from it. I usually use mysql so I'm not as familiar with Postgres, but I gather from the comments above the 11.9 version is the only one available.

What Nick meant was that if you need a newer version of PostgreSQL you'll need to download the PostgreSQL source code to your Opalstack server, compile it, and then configure it to run as a custom application on your account.
