Why Root Owner for apps Folder?

The reason I ask is because I just spent a few days on Cloudways trying to implement a security method to require an initial login before accessing the WP Admin login page. Cloudways also locks down everything outside of the actual application folder. I was unable to get the security method to work on Cloudways, so I'm fearing that it may not work on Opalstack as well.

Van we manage the apps and logs directories as part of our managed hosting platform. Unexpected changes in those directories like missing directories will cause problems that can affect your service, so we keep them locked down to prevent that.

One possible workaround is to use a symlink app to serve a directory outside of apps like /home/you/mysite. This way when whatever process works its way up the tree it won't run in to the apps directory.

It will have a problem if it attempts to modify permissions outside of your own home directory. If that's a problem for your app and you'd like us to check the existing server permissions for you, then please email support to let us know the details of exactly what you need and we'll try to help 🙂

Thank you sean. It may not matter if I decide to stick with the current Nginx + PHP-FPM setup since there's no .htaccess file. The security method I mentioned in my OP requires use of the .htaccess file.

Van You are correct - if you decide to stick with the Nginx + PHP-FPM setup, you won't be able to use .htaccess, i.e. that particular security method cannot be applied.
