outgoing mail settings in outlook

I am having issues in setting up Outlook on Mac OS to connect to my Mailbox at opalstack

Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Outlook. Try changing the SMTP authentication options in Account settings or contact your network administrator.

it works fine on Apple Mail.app
i am using the usual settings:
mail.us.opalstack.com
SSL: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP)
smtp.us.opalstack.com
SSL: 465

bici please check that you have all of the following set:

Incoming server: mail.us.opalstack.com
Incoming port: 993
Incoming encryption: SSL/TLS
Incoming SPA: unchecked
Outgoing server: smtp.us.opalstack.com
Outgoing port: 465
Outgoing encryption: SSL/TLS
Outgoing SPA: unchecked

If you've got that configured correctly and it's still not working then please email screenshots of all of your Outlook mail settings to Opalstack support.

after some investigation its the version of outlook that i am using that is causing the problems. and i can't update Outlook untill i update my computer as OS Mojave is as high as i can go on ny 2012 machine.

bici is there any error about a certificate? If so then you might need to install the updated ISRG Root X1 certificate that Let's Encrypt rolled out several months ago.

You can download the certificate from: https://letsencrypt.org/certs/isrgrootx1.pem

After it's downloaded you can open Keychain Access on your Mac and drag the certificate over to import it.

bici Not sure if this will help but my (working) Outlook settings differ from the above as follows:

outgoing smtp port: 587
encryption: TLS (although Auto also works fine)

Also the "outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and "use same settings as incoming server" options are checked.

I tried those settings as well. no luck. i suspect it's the version of Outlook that i am using: 14.7.2 from 2011!

bici if you're not getting the "An operation on the server timed out" error mentioned in that post then it is not applicable to you.

I've asked you here and in your support ticket to send screenshots of all of your Outlook account settings if you'd like us to look into this further. If you would please go ahead and do that at your convenience then we might be able to resolve this for you.

let's close this thread. Outlook on mac is a POS.
i was able to use another newer version of the client on another newer mac to log on to my account . so it's definitely something with my version of Outlook on my OS.

I did send in screenshots to support on Friday. But don’t spend time on this issue as I was only testing outlook for a friend. They have outlook on their iPhone and it should ok for them on that platform.
