Changing default PHP version

Hi there, I am pretty new to this but I am trying to deploy a Laravel app using Symlink and when I try to access it, it only says: Composer detected issues in your platform: Your Composer dependencies require a PHP version ">= 8.0.2".

I went to check the logs and this is what they say: Composer detected issues in your platform: Your Composer dependencies require a PHP version ">= 8.0.2". You are running 7.4.27.

I check the documentation regarding changing the PHP version but when I click to edit my applications, it only offers to change cache settings.

Is there a way to change the PHP version for my app?

SeidKorac at this time we don't have any UI for changing the PHP version on symlink apps, but we can set it for you from our end.

Please email support to let us know the app name and PHP version you want and we'll then take care of it 🙂

As of September 2022 you can now set the PHP version for symlink apps via your Opalstack dashboard.

I have the same issue
Composer detected issues in your platform: Your Composer dependencies require a PHP version ">= 8.1.0". You are running 7.3.33

the app is set to PHP 8.1 but when I do php -v I get PHP 7.3.33

How can I fix it?

xamax the PHP version of your web application doesn't affect php at the command line.

If you need to run PHP 8.1 at the command line then you must run php81 instead of php. More information is available at: Using Different PHP Versions at the Command Line

Could you please expand on how exactly to set the PHP verison?
When trying to instal from composer i get the 7.3 PHP incompatability error, how can i get this to run as 8.1?

$ composer require example/client Info from https://repo.packagist.org: #StandWithUkraine

In PackageDiscoveryTrait.php line 312:

Package example/client has requirements incompatible with your PHP versi on, PHP extensions and Composer version: - exampe/client v0.3.1 requires php ^8.1.0 which does not match your installed version 7.3.33.

danclarkie If you want to run composer with a different version of PHP, then you can do that by passing the composer executable to whichever PHP version, like so:

php81 <path to composer> <your commands here>

You can also run the following commands on the server via SSH:

mkdir -p ~/bin
ln -s /usr/bin/php81 ~/bin/php
export PATH=$HOME/bin:$PATH

That will create a "php" executable symlink in your ~/bin directory linked to php81. The PATH setting will make it the first "php" on the search path, i.e., when you run "php", it will use that instead of the system default.
