How to make (low key) public alias for a webmail account?

I'm looking at canceling my ISP and losing my long time email address, and I've long thought I should probably switch to managing my own email via my hosting. I have a primary email associated with my website, but it's attached to my work, which comes across a bit outlandish in low-key social settings, like a doctor's office, I'd prefer to just give out an email that doesn't elicit a reaction 🙂

EDITED: I think mail-username@imap1.us.opalstack.com may work, but is this a long term usable address? And is there a shorter version, like something we could do that's just my-given-name@opalstack.net or something simple? I realize it's not as portable as using my own domain name I can take with me.

You can create an email address for any domain you have on your account (like your user.opalstacked.com domain or any registered domain that you have pointed at our service) by following the instructions at: Adding Email Addresses

Thanks, maybe I should give up, but for the record, the keyword is "alias" meaning I suppose if there's any way to have a different address go to the same inbox (it would mail out under the real address.)

mick-p1982 all email addresses are "aliases" that either send mail to a mail user or forward it to another address.

if you want a different address go to the same inbox, then create a new email address that targets whichever mail user.
