Can I use more than one db software at a time?

I'm considering switching to PostgreSQL as I learn Python/Django, etc. Right now my sites use MariaDB with PHP, and one site uses a 3rd party PHP gallery software that uses MariaDB, which is my main concern. Can I continue to use the gallery software on Maria, and still develop the rest of my site on Postgre?

As long as your application supports it, you can use as many databases as you like. Eg. leave the PHP gallery software configured with your Mariadb and configure your Django app to use a new Postgresql database.
