sean mail-to-script functionality is on the roadmap, but we don't have an ETA for it yet. Thanks for letting us know you want it π
houdinihound Good to know. I use it extensively to a) process and store incoming emails into a custom CRM system; b) processing bounce-back messages and flagging user accounts accordingly (hopefully it cuts down on potential spam issues).
sean Yeah, it's a great feature to have π If you need a short-term workaround you could poll a mailbox instead of sending mail directly to a script. Here's an example that I put together a while back: https://gist.github.com/defulmere/1159755
houdinihound Hmm, even though it wouldn't be real-time, polling once a minute might actually work okay for a short while. Will definitely look into it if mail2script is not available as soon as I'm ready to move over my other Webfaction server. Thanks for that.
sean houdinihound you could get near-realtime performance by using an IMAP IDLE listener to fetch messages instead of polling the mailbox every N whatevers. Here's a super-old Python IMAP IDLE example that can probably be adapted for that purpose.
houdinihound Very interesting... I had no idea you could do that. Now I've just got to find some time to play around with and adapt that IMAP IDLE listener code. Once again, many thanks.
sean Our mail2script solution is ready! We've built our own IMAP IDLE listener from scratch, details are here: Processing messages with a script or program
