Ok so a few things! The biggest one is the lack of support for GTIDs (new MySQL feature), the CLI being a bit different/non standard, which likely impacts one of the main reasons - maintaining different MySQL engines was really annoying, so there's a drive for consistency to ease supporting the DBs.
