Bluesky Custom Domains

I’m experimenting with the new Bluesky social network. It allows me to customize my handle there to my own domain (rather than use their default, which is .bsky.social. This process is described in the Bluesky FAQ.

As I understand it, I’m looking to add a TXT record to my domain of the form _atproto.[my domain].com TXT did=did:plc:[identifier]. The identifier is supplied to me by the Bluesky client app.

I can see in the Opalstack web interface the ability to add a TXT record with content and a TTL value, but I don’t see where I’d specify the domain (i.e., _atproto).

Appreciate any guidance.

rdelrossi create _atproto.yourdomain.com as a new domain, then add the TXT record to the new domain.

I've tried this for my .ca domain, and I don't know if I'm just not waiting long enough for the DNS to propogate, or if I've done something wrong. (1) I'm using a .ca and not a .com; (2) all one line in the custom field?

MattShepherd Your TXT record is not correct. You first need to create the subdomain _atproto.[your_domain].ca by adding it through the "Add Your Domain" button at https://my.opalstack.com/domains/.

Once the subdomain has been added, you should click the "edit" (pencil) button next to it and create the TXT record through the "Add DNS Record" button, like this:

Note: You must replace [identifier] with your actual Bluesky identifier.
